Three new marine parks in the Buccaneer Archipelago!
Send your congratulations to Bardi Jawi, Mayala and Dambeemangarddee Traditional Owners and the WA Government on Australia’s first co-designed marine parks.
BREAKING NEWS! Buccaneer Archipelago marine parks declared!
The marine parks will protect 600,000 hectares of pristine waters within the thousand islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago, safeguarding an oasis of marine life including whales, turtles, dolphins, dugongs, fish and corals.
They will support local communities and culture, and boost sustainable opportunities in tourism, fishing, conservation, and research.
For the first time, Aboriginal culture and heritage will be protected within these marine parks through a special new type of cultural zone.
Today is a historic day for the Bardi Jawi, Mayala and Dambeemangarddee Traditional Owners who have worked with the WA Government to create Australia's first ever co-designed marine parks with Traditional Owners.
Send your congratulations to the Bardi Jawi, Mayala and Dambeemangarddee Traditional Owners and the WA Government for this fantastic achievement for marine life and local communities!
