Thank Premier McGowan and Minister Sanderson
Send a message congratulating the WA Government for Gooniyandi National Park and milestone towards the creation of the Fitzroy River National Park.
Gooniyandi Traditional Owners have signed a historic agreement with the WA Government to create Gooniyandi National Park.
The announcement is a milestone towards the creation of the Fitzroy River National Park and will go towards helping protect ancient gorges, ranges and river pools in the upper Fitzroy catchment - as well as help protect Aboriginal heritage - and provide sustainable jobs and development opportunities for Traditional Owners.
Despite this great step towards protection of the Martuwarra, irrigation proposals on Gooniyandi Country will not be ruled out by the new national park, with plans to extract water from the Fitzroy River for Gogo Station – owned by Murray-Darling cotton and beef farmers.
Please send a message to Premier Mark McGowan and Environment Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson congratulating them for this announcement and call on them to protect the entire length of the mighty Fitzroy.
